Hoe breng ik press ons nagels het beste aan voor een lange houdbaarheid?

How do I best apply press-on nails for long-lasting wear?

Press-on nails are the way to create a salon-worthy manicure within 10 minutes. But one question we get asked the most:

How do you make press-on nails really last?

With the right preparation and technique, press-ons can stay perfect for up to 14 days. Here, we explain step by step how to apply them for maximum durability.

Why don't press-on nails sometimes last?

If press-ons come off quickly, it's almost always due to:

  • insufficient degreasing

  • not creating a matte surface

  • too little or incorrectly applied glue

  • wrong size press-on nail

  • not using the 45° application method

Fortunately, this is easy to prevent.

Step 1: Push back your cuticles

Use a cuticle pusher to gently push back your cuticles. This creates more surface area and prevents lifting at the base.

Step 2: Lightly buff the nail plate

Use a fine buffer or file to remove the natural shine from your nail.

You want to:

  • not thin the nail

  • only lightly mattify

  • remove dead skin cells

A matte nail ensures better glue adhesion.

Step 3: Clean and dry your nails

Wash your hands and then use an alcohol wipe to thoroughly degrease your nails; this is included with your nail set.

Oil is the biggest enemy of adhesion.

Tip: Do not touch your nails after degreasing.

Step 4: Choose the right size press-on nails

The correct size is crucial for long-lasting wear.

✔ The press-on should not press against the skin
✔ It must fit perfectly from sidewall to sidewall
✔ If you're in doubt between two sizes? Choose the smaller one, or if the larger one is just a bit too big, file it down.

At BIMA Nails, you receive 30 nails in 15 sizes, so you always find the perfect fit.

Step 5: Use enough glue

For long-lasting adhesion, we recommend liquid nail glue. Not too little, but also not so much that it oozes out the sides.

Step 6: Use the 45° application method (important!)

This is the technique for long-lasting adhesion.

  1. Place the base of the press-on against the cuticle.

  2. Hold the tip upwards at an angle of approximately 45 degrees.

  3. Slowly roll the nail downwards.

  4. Press firmly for 20–30 seconds.

This method prevents air bubbles and ensures maximum adhesion.

Step 7: Avoid water for the first 24 hours

After application, the glue needs time to fully cure.

Therefore, avoid:

  • hot water

  • long showers

  • cleaning without gloves

After 24 hours, you can resume all normal activities.

How long do press-on nails last?

With correct preparation:

  • With liquid glue: up to 14 days

  • With sticky tabs: about 3 days, but some customers can even wear press-ons with sticky tabs for 1 to 1.5 weeks.

The durability mainly depends on your prep and technique.
